“The collaboration between MILK and Indiana Department of Correction’s Officer Breann Leath Memorial Maternal Health Unit has been transformational. Being a mom is difficult. Being a mom in prison is beyond difficult. The traditional path of correctional programming is focused on education and clinical approaches. MILK’s creative approach allows the moms on the unit to uniquely express their feelings in a safe, non-judgmental place. MILK’s support includes providing art supplies, bringing guest speakers to inspire and educate, and having honest conversations-one mom to another. All are priceless in a correctional setting. MILK has provided an opportunity for the women to discuss, create, and identify their hopes, dreams, and fears in a way that fosters reflection and self-growth. We are grateful every day for MILK’s involvement with the moms.”

“The kindness and generosity that MILK has shown Gilead House is over-the-top fantastic.  The MILK organization volunteers and staff are incredible, generous, amazing people.  Thank you for being who you are. Thank you for your endless compassion. Thank you for your time.  As the Executive Director of Gilead House, I know a little selflessness goes a long way.  Whether MILK is dropping off much-needed everyday supplies or providing mental health counseling and classes, this organization has always been there for us.  We are forever in your debt of kindness.  Thank you for making our moms/kids feel loved again.”

“I do enjoy the MILK Meetings. I love the fact that I was able to use my feelings and put it in some kind of creation, art, or some kind of craft. The knowledge you get from the way you feel about things is very educational and a great way to reflect on yourself and turn it into a learning situation to better understand yourself and others.”

“What I love about the MILK meetings is that it’s a way to express your feelings into artwork, you can escape the fact of being imprisoned and allow yourself to be free to express yourself in your own form. I feel free when I attend the meetings, like I am in control of me. It’s very pleasing.”
